WHY WE LOVE BLACK & WHITE WEDDING PHOTOGRAPHY

As you have probably guessed from our portfolio, we LOVE black and white photographs!

As photographers that have learnt photography through out our education, using film and developing images in a darkroom, we have such a connection with the process of photography and using black and white images brings us back to that passion of the traditional and classic way of photography. There is something about the atmospheric emotion that a black and white image creates that we love so much!

“When you photograph people in colour, you photograph their clothes. But when you photograph people in Black and white, you photograph their souls!”

Ted Grant

Colour Photography

There is still a lot to be said about colour photography but taking colour away from an image can really create a neutral pallet that draws your attention to the subject with little distraction. For example having some bright colours in an image can really draw your eye to the colour and stand out an image but maybe that was not the focus, maybe its more about the emotion therefore turning it black and white draws your eye to the real focus of the image.

Here a few of our favourite back and white images we have taken!

Rockbeare Manor wedding in Exeter, groom morning prep over the pool table
Abbots Court Wedding guests enjoying the dance floor - party
Wedding day couple portraits at Hinton St Mary Estate in Dorset. The walled garden, black and white reflection in the water.
Golden hour wedding couple portraits during sunset at quantock lakes wedding venue, Somerset
atmospheric, emotive image of a couple on a windy and stormy Dorset beach along the coast. Having their wedding day portraits
Wedding couples grandma was a flower girl for their wedding day.

Don’t worry, as much as we love black and white photography your gallery will be a wonderful combination of both colour and black & white images to best tell your story!

Always remember that it’s YOUR wedding, it’s about the two of you, and that’s all that matters. Make it fun, through out your planning journey all the way through to your big day.
