ADVICE AND TIPS TO GET AMAZING CONFETTI PHOTOGRAPHS

It is no surprise that one of our favourite moments to capture at a wedding is the CONFETTI, so we thought we would put together some advice and tips so you can guarantee to have some amazing confetti shots, as who wouldn’t want that right!?

The confetti shot is one of those iconic photos that has been around for such a long time but has not dated one bit! Traditionally a newly-wed couple would have rice or wheat thrown over them to symbolise fertility and bestow prosperity on their marriage. As far as traditions go, this one is one of the nicer ones and one that we are glad has stuck around!
It’s usually the first time your guests get to see you as a married couple and visually it’s great for your wedding photos and film, as it offers SO much more than just a confetti shot. It captures all the joy, love and celebration of you and all your guests together! Who wouldn’t want that captured for you to treasure for years to come!

Now let’s get into the details on making sure you have the best confetti experience…

What type of confetti?

Our personal favourite is biodegradable paper confetti, which you can get in so many colours and it floats in the air the longest, which is key to get the best results!
Mixing this with a couple of confetti cannons and some larger confetti and you are on to a WINNER!

Dried flowers are a great alternative but a few things to note if this is something you are considering, they can stick your hair and they tend to not be very big therefore less noticeable in your photos and video. The larger petals are more visually appealing but they drop to the floor a lot faster. The more you have the better the results!

A good flutter is best so if you can, go for paper confetti option, but don’t forget to get biodegradable!

Get shit loads!!

We definitely believe the more the better, no one has ever said “ there was too much confetti”. It might seem obvious but the more you have the more impactful it will be in your photos and video! Trust us, you can’t rely on guests to bring confetti and with venues being more strict on what confetti you can use, it’s best that you make sure you supply the right stuff and there is plenty to go around!

If you are planning a confetti tunnel, which most people do, make sure everyone does get more than just a handful otherwise all you get is lots of little throws. So by the time the wind has taken most of it your left with a few bits of confetti floating which doesn’t look great. So we would advise at least TWO large handfuls per person if you want a really amazing confetti experience and epic visuals, you won’t regret it!

Handful vs Cones

Now you have loads of confetti, how do you give it to your guests to get the best throwing results and storing it we hear you ask. The best way is to have baskets full of confetti and let your ushers and bridesmaids tell your guests to grab handfuls and go to town!

Small bags and even comes, although they look great they tend to be small amounts and everyone instantly think that’s all they can have. The baskets also save you time, effort and money!

Get your wedding party involved

As much as we all love the results, you don’t want to be spending ages getting it ready, you want to get on with enjoying your day. So get your wedding party involved with handing out the confetti, it’s best to designate this role before the day and we’ll organise the rest so it’s quick, easy and fun!

Not allowed confetti?

It is important to check with your venue if you are allow confetti, as early on in your wedding planning as possible to avoid any disappointment.

Here are some options! Some venues and churches unfortunately don’t allow confetti, which is understandable as it can get messy! If you are getting married at a venue that doesn’t allow confetti then some consider bubbles or have bubble guns, streamers or flags for people to wave, even pom pom’s to throw!

Another alternative is for a sparkler tunnel, glow sticks or other light up wands in the evening! Get creative with it!

Cannons!

If you love confetti like we do, why not have some confetti fun through out the day? Confetti cannons are a great way to start off your confetti tunnel but they can also be fantastic during other elements of your day, such as your cake cutting, first dance or when your being announced into your wedding breakfast!

This is great if your a bit nervous about being in front of everyone. you can get confetti to match your colour theme, gold foil looks great and is fantastic for your first dance photos and film. Just remember the larger the cannon the more confetti, so GO BIG!

Enjoy it!!

It’s your wedding day so enjoy every experience and moment along the way. Have fun and embrace the confetti experience!
